JD 70 Rocker shaft enable?

I want to try to put 3 pt hitch on my JD70 and was trying to see if the rocker arm works. The manual says to put in the oil line coupling plugs, but I don't have them. I am going to try to make some (work in machine shop) the same as couplings except no hole, will this work? They look different in the manual. Or can I buy them somewhere reasonable? thanks, Ken M

Almost any salvage yard that has letter series or first number series John Deere salvage tractors would have them. The dummy plugs are pretty common. It is the coupling for the hose ends which is harder to find and therefore more expensive. If you supplied the name of the state where you live, surely someone could suggest several of these places to you.

Jim:I still have to set the metering screw on
mine but I put Pioneer couplers in and leave them.
Do you still have to set the screw with the dummy plugs ? I don't remember. Rick.

You have to set the metering screw. Hydraulic powertrol is a single circuit. It's either rockshaft or remote. I have never used the rockshaft on my 70. I don't have a 800 hitch for it, nor does it have aftermarket, so it doesn't get used. I fitted my tractor with Pioneer JD style couplers, mounted on the bayonet style original hose end couplers. I also have an original green JD cylinder with the old style couplers, which I will use for show, if I ever get an implement ready.

How scarce & valuable are the old low pressure Deere remote cylinders in your part of the country? Is yours the "double" depth stop rod unit or the later cylinder with the "jam" lock on the cylinder rod as a depth stop?

Mine are the later, hydraulic stop type. The "mechanical stop" or "double rod" type are a little harder to find. I have seen the Hyd. stop type like mine go for $40 to $100, with $60-75 being most common. It all depends on how many people want to bid. The older ones that I've seen were around $50 and in well used condition. I really don't know what one would bring with new paint, seals and hoses. Mine are painted, have new seals, and new hoses, so I'd guess they were somewhat valuable.

G : Good question. I have Dad's double rod that
came with the '49 "A" that I'm using on the disk.
Never really thought that it might be 'antique?'.
I haven't seen any sell for a long time. Rick

Did some rooting around & found some info in the 80/820/830,70D & 1010 parts manuals. There is a four inch dia piston low pressure cylinder with the double depth stop rods. Part # AR1304R up to serial # 4RC-55636 & part# AR1716R above.Has 6.6 tons of extend thrust. The modern looking low presure cylinder with the depth stop on the rod & little plunger is 3.5" diameter. Known as the 3.5x8. Part #AF2322R. Has 5.05 tons of push thrust. The high pressure cylinder has a 3.0" piston & 3.71 thrust on low pressure & 7.95 tons on a 2250psi system. Looks like fingers don't have a chance around any of them. Bought a 4" cylinder with ratty hoses & Deere pto air with melted babbit bearings & no hose together for $50.00 Canadian peso's.

Same with me. I took the after market 3pt off
and put it on Dad's "A" just to move snow. Some-
body had broken off the metering screw on the "70"
and I had a rough time getting it out and replaced
I have it set for the remotes but couldn't remem-
ber if I set it in or out. Just thought Doc ought
to know about the metering screw. Rick
