I have a JD 2355 that will not go into gear without grinding. I have tried to adjust the linkage to the required specifications per JD. When the engine is cold there is no problem putting the tractor in gear without grinding(forward or reverse and gear). When it gets to normal operating temp the tractor will grind while trying to put it into gear while at a stop. It seems like the clutch is not disengaging(i.e if you do not push a clutch in all the way and try to change gears you would expect it to grind) If it is the clutch and pressure plate does, anyone have an idea on the cost to replace. The tractor has 1400hours on it I got it about 2 months ago. Thanks in advance for your help

If this tractor has the original clutch in it, then it has a button style clutch disk in it. These were great for holding, but bad about warping, dragging and also hard on flywheels. There are several bulletins on clutch and flywheel updates from Deere. Unless you are going to plow or chisel with this tractor, you will be better off changing it to an organic, full faced clutch disk. Some tractors need to have the flywheel and/or pressure plate changed in these bulletins. Also there is a special grease to go on the transmission input shaft splines where the clutch disk rides. If these splines become rusty or have clutch dust build up, the clutch disk will bind and not move away from the flywheel enough during disengagement, causing clutch drag. Also, you did not mention if this tractor is a cab tractor or not. If it is, one other thing to check is your clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder. It may need to be bled. If there is air in the system, the slave cylinder will not travel far enough to disengage. The open station tractors used a mechanical linkage. As the other post mentioned, if your free travel is too much, you may not be releasing your clutch enough, letting it drag. I hope this is of some help to you. Best bet is to call your JD dealer about those bulletins. Good luck!

hello: just a question first does your tractor have a loader. anyways it soounds like you given it an inch of free travel. sometimes when you are adjusting this make sure that the arm that moves the release bearing is actually tight up against the pressure plate assembly and then adjust your inch of free play.this is just a suggestion.as for parts thats up to you what you want. high price jd parts or jobber parts that give you the same or if not better quailty.the downfall to jobber is trying to find the right clutch for the tractor.here in canada aclutch plate is 500.00 and the pressure plate assembly is 1100.00 from jd .where as from jobber you can get the whole thing for about the same price as the plate alone. anyways hoped i helped a little bit. if you need anymore info or help letme know.
