I just put my tractor back together after changing the main bearing ''fly wheel side'',and adjusting shims on same side rod bearing. I also put a new bushing on the clutch brake pivot. Now the motor runs grate but I can hear the clutch plates grinding when I take the clutch out of gear. What did I do wrong? Do I need to adjust the clutch now?

Ron, by grinding do you mean a tinny rattle. there are a few reasons for the clutch to make noise when dis-engaged, the adjustment bolts could be hitting the cover, the pulley could be hitting the inner dust shield, the plates could be loose on the driver splines, the driver could be loose, the fork could be bent, the pulley bearing or bushing could be worn or bad. Try to exlplain the noise in more detail. You might try to remove the fork & pulley brake bearing & run it without the fork to see if that is causing the noise.

Clooney I took the cover off to look in to see what was making the noise, and noticed the plates grinding and making dust. I could smell the clutch burning and see it ratteling the inner workings were being pushed outwards towards me.

Ron, it looks like you better pull the clutch plates & clutch driver out & have a look. Make sure you mark the position of the clutch driver to the crankshaft before pulling the driver.

Clooney what do you think could have caused this problem when it was working just fine before I touched the clutch? Is it posible that i could have the forks in up side down?

Ron, I don't think you can re-assemble it with the fork in upside down (I have never tried it but it will barely fit in the correct direction). Did you put the spring that goes around the shaft back under the fork? If the brake isn't adjusted tight enough it will let the pulley move in towards the engine & hit the dust shield. You probably should pull the bearing & brake back off & look, if everything looks ok then pull the clutch & pulley off & take a look.
