There is a 435 diesel marked rough going at a local auction. I have a 430 parts tractor. Are all the components such as transmission, 3-pt. and hydraulics the same? I understand the diesel is a two cylinder GM motor, but everything else should be interchangeable. Both are 1959 models.

The tranny and other parts are different. The
tranny housing has an extra bolt a 430 doesn't
have. The 435 has a different ring and pinion
also.

Just going from memory as the 420/430 manual is back at the shop. All the internals from 420's serial number 125,000 will swap right up to some 1010's serial number 31,000. Speeds will vary due to different numbers of teeth on the R&P. Even some 40 & early 420 parts will swap as well but require the manual to be certain which ones.

I hesitate to say this as too many buyers would run prices up, but since I just bought a 450 crawler loader and my wife said that if I buy one more tractor I will be retiring to the farm by myself with all the bills.
My 430's are wide front end and utility style with 5 speed transmissions.
There is an estate auction in Illinois near St. Louis coming up in August with over 80 running tractors and many parts and part tractors. It includes the complete 30 Series and Most of the 20 series and letter series and two digit series along with some New Generation Tractors. I understand there are some rare collector models like a very rare 1959 Rice Special 730 with narrow front and narrow rear (whatever that is). Also steam engines and tractor parts. This is advertised as the John Deere sale of the century.
I am not associated with the auctioneer or family other than I have bought parts from them and they have been nice enough to answer some rebuilding questions I had.
It seems like a shame that a guy could collect this much over a lifetime and then have it sold at auction. I sure would like to have the complete 30 series.

The problem the last of the farmers who purchased new two cylinder Deeres are retired or dead. That leaves the children & grand children to carry on the two cylinder hobby. However as the farm population falls there are fewer places to store & use these tractors except on yuppie hobby farms. The new generation tractors seem to be gathering more interest in the 35 to 65 year old collectors around here. Just like Ford model T's & A's only draw bored yawns by the middle aged at most show while interest has moved on to early 60' through late 80's muscle cars.

As long as the while metal nose cone is intact, grills are cheap and if the hood is salvageable. Is your parts tractor a "W" chassis? The nose & hood are tough to find & can be huge $$$'s. Made from unatainium. Most 435's were parted out years ago with ruined ring & pinions, busted blowers or cracked front axle castings. When rebuilding use all "N" series engine parts & boil out the aircleaner mesh. Update the blower seals to reduce the chances of a run away. Contact me if you purchase it or check back in this or Rummey's site archives. Just back from a show of 173 Deere tractors. Two 330's & four 320's there but only one 435.

Phil, I think most things are the same. I do think hydraulic pump is different as well as hood, front nose, etc. I will look at my parts books. I have both 435 & 430W. The 435 is 3 times the better tractor and I love the GM motor except the noise. It is really economical to use. Assuming they both have 5 speed trannys, that should be same also.
