On my 52 model A JD I would like to take the brake out that is run by the hand clutch, and put a bushing in it to take out the slop, because it is so loose. What do I have to take apart to get it off?

Ron, Clooney is right on target, but did you release the clutch before trying to remove the block. You need to do this so there is some movement and you can get the fork out. Be careful putting it back in as to get it located in the right place.

Ron, just pull linkage pin & the 4 bolts & then the ft bearing assy.(the bearing is the cover on the ft of the 1st reduction cover that has the brake, & clutch fork in it). Once it is off there is a C clip that has to come off then the fork shaft can slide out the top. Make sure you mark the fork to shaft before removal. You will find that brake arm hole has worn egg shaped so you will have to machine it out round before installing a bushing.

Ron, sorry for the delayed responce my power has been out all day. I think Chuck answered your question, I should have mentioned that in my first post. If you still have trouble getting it out you might have to wiggle it up & down & pull it out at a slight angle to get the fork pivot bolts to clear the hole.

Thanks Clooney I got it out, my problem was that I hadent taken the clutch out of gear. Once I did that it came out easily. Now tonight I will take it to work and bore it out and bush it.
