When the clutch is in very long hydraulics, brakes, power steering, etc. all gone!
I have been told there is a "primer pump"
problem...seal, etc.
If this is true how hard is it to fix?
What is the proper name of the pump?
Will I be able to tell if it is a seal or the actual pump?
Can I fix it myself?
Approximately how much will this cost to fix?
Thanks, Reaver

I was through this on a 4010 and a 4020same system. It is an internal (high pessure) leak. Probably in the steering valve or prioraty valve.Take the return line off the steering valve.start tractor.without touching any controls(using oil)there should be less than a cup of oil every 5 minutes.get a service manual!!!!!

You have a "high pressure leak to sump. Look at the Hyd. control valves first . Check the Pto valve adjustment, engage the pto and see if this helps. This tractor should take quite awhile to loose hyd with your foot on the clutch but if you have an internal leak it can go pretty quick.Don

You should have hydraulics for at least five minutes with the clutch peddle depressed, and useing all of the hydraulic functions. If you don't have the five minutes you have a problem or problems somewhere in the system. Start by checking the filterd and pick up screen. There is a lot on this subject in the archives.

How long can you hold the clutch peddle down before you lose hydraulics? It should have hydraulics for a minimum of five minutes, up to ten minutes if every thing is in good shape. Five minutes is a long time to hold that strong spring down! It sounds like a lot of people have problems with these hydraulics, and think that is the way it is supposed to work.

I believe they have a transmission pump that pumps the oil from the transmission to the front pump that works the hydraulic system. When you put in the clutch and hold it for a while the transmission pump isn't working and so eventually the front pump runs out of oil and you loose hydraulics until you let off on the clutch. Don't know if it is anything wrong or just the way the system works.

This is just the way the system works, on the 30 series, there is a engine driven hex shaft that continuously drives the charge pump that supplies the main pump.
