Correct Operating Temperatures for JD MT???

Hi:

In general, what should be the correct operating temperature of a John Deere MT under no load (ie not plowing) and under load, or plowing. I noticed my MT was operating at a rock steady 220F when plowing yesterday (ambient air temp was about 85-90F). Should I be concerned? I drained the cooling system in the morning and refilled with 50/50 coolant (antiFreeze)/water. I don't know if it had been previously filled with AntiFreeze but the coolant I drained out wasn't very green.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Check here for more cooling system info. There are some suggestions you can try that may help. But the bottom line is that the M/40/320 models run warm, and bad sensor placement in some can make it appear that they are running even hotter. As long as the coolant is not boiling over, it's topped up, and it's circulating, you should be okay.

That sounds about right, mine runs right around there all the time. I just overhauled the engine and it runs like a top. I pull a 6 ft finishing mower with mine and run about a 50/50 mix water to antifreeze. If it isn`t boiling over and the gauge worries you just don`t look.

I had an MT did the same thing, ran about 210 220. Thats right on borderline of being too hot I overhauled it, as I was burning some oil from the front piston, and after that with a good valve job, new sleeves and rings it ran about 190. Not saying you need an overhaul but thats my experience, good luck

Mine runs about the same temp, and it has a brand new radiator. I have heard that the location of the water temp sensor does not reflect the true operating temp. I have used mine for years and it it is still running. Russ
