I just recently aquired a 41 B that had been setting for quite a few years, the tractor is in great shape and the engine isn't even stuck! However the gearshift is stuck and I can get it to move out of the 5/6 position and get to the neutral spot, however it won't shift down to the other gears. The hi/low lever will move and the clutch lever when you pull it back will disengage. What are my options, do I take the gear shift housing off and see whats in there or do I take the side panel off on the right side of tractor and look in there? The left side wheel turns when in the neutral position as I have that side of the tractor jacked up and off the ground. When I moved the tracor the whole thing was locked up and after spraying penatrating oil on the shifter it got so I could move it back and forth sideways but not vertical. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm new to green as I have been an orangeman!

That happened to me while I was plowing, and I was lucky enough to have with me a man who knew exactly what to do. I had the wrench size he needed and he took the top cover off the transmission, lifted it gently, relocated the fork on the place it was suppose to be, bolted the cover back on and I was back in business, again. I'm sure the shifting fork is out of the required place on yours. Mine is a 41 B, hand start. Good luck!

the 5/6 gears are in the other housing, however the shaft running through the case that holds the shifter fork is probably seized up with crude. You could pull the side cover and you should be able to work the side shift. Even the gear might be stuck on the spline. I'd try the side cover behine the fly wheel. Not sure if you have to pull the flywheel or not. Use some kroil and or pb blaster.
