i was just looking into it today the tire size for a john deere G is 12.0 x 38. i was looking at the rear tractor tires and they dont have 12.0 x 38 but they have 12.4 x 38 and i was wondering would the 12.4 x 38 fit the factory rim?

Hi:

Several decades ago the tire manufactureers stopped refering to thier tires by "Rim Size" and switched to "Tire Width" in their designation of size. The original 11x38 became the 12.4x38, the 12x38 became the 13.6x38 and the 13x38 became the 14.9x38. 15.5x38 is a "new" size. the original 15x30 tires became (I think) 18.4x30.

The A came with 11x38s so the currant size is 12.4x38. My 70 for example came on 12x38s, so now I have 13.6x38s on her.

13.6-38's would be the right tire it replaced the 12-38's. a 12.4-38 looks to me like it would work on your tractor also. dont realy know..... john2510-3020

I think the new designation for the 12 38 is 13.6 38 according to my tire store. My 1938 G has 13 36 tires which they tell me is the same as a 14.9 now. Can't keep it all straight

I know that the 12.4x38 is the size of tire made for the A and the B series tractor and the original size (don't quote me) I think was 11.0x38

So I am thinking that the tire would actually be larger than a 12.4x38.

I hope this helps some.

Karl
