I'm thinking about adding a New Generation to my shed. It would be for shows and parades mostly but used some. I have located a 3010 gas, a 3010 diesel, and a 3020 gas power shift. Similar condition but diesel is twice the money. What do you think?

I was just shopping around for the same tractors a couple weeks ago. I am planning on doing the same thing as you. I ended up with the 3020 because it has 38 inch rubber instead of 36 inch. I really like the ol gal so far.

Nice! What year is it? How much did you pay?
I tried to sell my 1967 3020 gas last spring, but got only one nibble! I thought it was a pretty good tractor, as it has a new clutch, fresh overhaul, new (factory no less) seat, paint, etc. Unfortunately almost no one called.

Its a 1967. I wanted the narrow front since we dont have much room in the barns. Gas suited me just find since I wont be using it very often. I bought this tractor from my brother. He used to pull a planter etc for the past few years. The price was less than $5000.

the 3020 gas poweshift is not rare at all they are almost as common as the diesel models. we have a 3020 gas powershift, when we bought it we had some trouble with it but after we got that fixed it runs like new. i would go with the 3010 gas though because the 3020 wopuld be more of the work type unlike the 3010, if all your going to use it for was parades and shows.the 3020 will out pull any other trator we have so far....
gotta love them green uhn's!!! john2510-3020

I'd buy the 3020 gas. I have one and it is my favorite. But I must warn you, don't let anybody else drive it, or they will go out and buy one too.

Get the 3010 gas, if is to be used for parades and shows. The early 2010 and 3010 diesels were troublesome, so stay clear unless you like headaches. And leave the 3020 gas powershift to someone else who will use it for what it was made for, and not for showing, as it will outwork the other two tractors.

I would probobly guess that if the 3010D has been rebuilt it already has the updated engine of the 3020, if the liners and such were replaced, so you wouldn't have to worry about the 3010 having less power. I personally like the sacro-range transmission. I think it's pretty idiot proof. I would guess the 3020 powershift would be a fairly rare tractor. Like other people below have stated that if I were going to use the tractor alot {100 plus hours per year} I'd get the Diesel. If less hours get the gas model. When in doubt I just choose the one with the best sheet metal. I'm alot better with engine components than I am as a body man. Good Luck, Greg H.

If I were looking for a tractor to work I would go with the diesel. The gas tractors will be just as good as collectors and occasional work and will probably be easier to keep running if just run once in a while, especially if you are not familiar with diesels. The power shift is really nice and I think the 3020 is more tractor than the 3010. Wouldn't think there would be a lot of gas power shift 3020's but not sure, there are hardly any gas new generation tractors in our area at all.

If you are looking for "collectability" based on production numbers, in all likelyhood no one will ever know exactly, by type and by fuel how many 3020s there are. However, with 3010s there are 12,525 gas row crops, 2442 LP row crops, and 23,675 diesel row crops to choose from. My guess is that the number of gas tractors, as a percentage of those built DECLINED steadily throughout 3020 production. There would still be a lot of them.

My suggestion for getting a collectable "new generation" tractor would be to look at:
3010 Row crop LP.....2442 built
3010 Standard Gas.....493 built
3010 Standard LP..... 103 built
3010 Standard Diesel.3017 built
3010 RC Utility gas...654 built
3010 RC Utility LP.....32 built
3010 RC Utility D....1108 built
3010 O gas..... ..... 19 built
3010 O diesel..... ...57 built
4010 Row crop gas....3613 built
4010 Standard G..... ..98 built
4010 Standard LP..... 792 built
4010 Hi Crop LP..... ..17 built
4010 Hi Crop D..... ..170 built
any 4000 Syncro
any 4000 Power Shift
any 2510
any 2520
any 3020 Hi Crop
any 4020 Hi Crop
