I am currently restoring a Model LA JD. It has no serial number. I have several questions. Anyone have a JD LA or know of any resources to find answers?

There are a lot of us LA nuts, just ask questions and someone will jump in. Was at the NY EXPO V Fri- Sun, L, LA, LI and 62 were the featured model, I heard there were 226. I didn't try to count them.

Most of the parts needed for the engine I got from JD. If you don't need the nosecone your luckly, but they are available. Same goes for the drive shaft cover. The bearings in the rear are pretty general and I got most of them from an Autoparts store. Get the decals from Travis Jorde.
In the LA the engine will be a John Deere. The serial number plates are missing from putting log chains on the rear axle. If you have had water in the rear end, you can replace all bearings and still have plenty of whine. Russ

This bulletin board has got to be one of the best places on the planet to get your questions about JD tractors answered. As questions come up, post them and see what happens.

I'm pretty familiar with how the Hercules-engined L is put together (by taking one completely apart). I may be able to answer a question or two about the LA.

I'm afraid that I won't be a lot of help but misery loves company. I'm in the process of restoring an LUC engine (from a 12A combine) myself. I could also use some parts (pistons, rings, rods and bearings). I did manage to get a gasket set from my local JD dealer and a tech manual from this forum off "Marketplace" and then "Tractor Manuals". If I find a parts source I'll post the relevant information here.
Good-Luck
Bob
