Every hand crank j.d. has its own little quirks both cold and hot.You are going to have to pick up on them and remember.I would say your spark is most important and the fuel level in the carb is very important and all passages open. The spark should jump a 1/8 gap and be dark blue and snap at you.You are turning over a lot of iron and every thing must be right.Make sure compression releases are open.

I agree with Gary. There are two things you might try as I have a 1929 D and some times it wants to be like a Mule to start. One thing, if you have the primer cup on the left cylinder, use an oil squirt can and put two squirts of gas in the cylinder. Roll the engine over to suck the fuel in the cylinder and then try to make her start. Two if you can close the choke, and rock the flywheel back and forth for a few times. Put the chock around half choke, then pull the flywheel through and see if she will start. I hope this helps you in your efforts. By the way make sure that the mag is firing on the left spark mark or just a hair past the mark, and do not use the A 25 plugs in the D. Put the Autolite 3095. They seem to work much better.
