When you shift to third, fifth, seventh, or eighth gear it will jump out of gear. Any ideas?

If you try to adjust the linkage and it does not work then look at the shifter next. More than likely it has some slop in it. If the shifter does not work either then problem could be top shaft in transmission.

either the range shift collar or the hi range gear teeth are worn out, probably from a worn shift quadrant, that did not engage the hi range properly,it could also be a shift cam roller that is worn out.you need to take the platform off and then the trans cover and look inside.it will need to be split to repair it.now that ive given you the bad news, first check out the shift quadrant and make sure the bushings are good and the unit is tight.

On a 4010 these are all high range. Maybe check the adjustment of your linkage.

I had the same problem with my 4020. I rebuilt the drum shifter with new bushings and shims. It made a huge improvement but it was still hard to shift in some gears. I found the holes on the shifter arms were badly worn. After I replaced the arms it shifted like a new. When replacing the arms on the tranny make sure you have only about .005 clearance behind the arm or it may not start because of a neutral safety switch.
