The 8V battery is dead again. It starts fine if I charge it up. I grounded a screw driver against the seat frame of the B and the ground terminal of the battery and it charges 10 Amps when the battery is dead. At first it went back to zero, but if I do it a couple times it stays up for longer periods of time. Does the battery have internal resistance that makes it charge?. I adjusted the spring on the regulator so that it puts out 8.25V for my 8V battery. Did I do fine, or did I screw it all up? The gen and reg are all 6 V.

Dennis, first, u say u grounded the frame agioanst the battery ground and that made it charge????? ?/ Is it connected + ground ????? or did u mean as grounded terminal the + on batery?????/ If it only charges if u ground that one battery terminal, I suspect a bad ground connection somewhere. An 8 volt battery should charge at around 9 volts and better. The only people around here that are good at adjusing regul;ators are the old fashion generator shops of which there arent mnay left. Check ur grounds on battery, Regualtor, and Generator and see if you or a a shop can crank up the regulator higher than 8.25 and see what happens. PS if you meant it only charges if you like ground out the battery some, the battery could be going bad also and the gen is puttign out but the battry just wont accept or hold a charge as they can act wehn gong bad or getign dead cells? Ol John T

Clooney,
I don't really think the guy is the real John T. I have never seen the Real John T. spell like that and he always left his E-mail address in all of his posts. Maybe I am wrong, I just can't beleive we are talking tho John T. here.

I know for a fact that adjusting a regulator is a waist of time. Best get a new regulator and clean up your generator brushes...should be ok.
