I want to build a pulling tractor. I would like a 4010 or 4020. I'm not rich. should I consider a power shift or syncro. what size and brand of pump,a roosamaster cbc? or jdb? or another brand, maybe a bosch? tire size. turbo size and brand. any advise would be helpful. Thanks

Wendell, easiest and cheapest route to have fun pulling would just be to crank the pump on the 4020 and if you can run a turbo you will do good, since gases do suck.

Gary, I am in MN-WI area but don't know wendell. I don't currently have one running, but eventually like to build one with the big head which you must be running. Hate to say too much but I am sure you know what I mean.

You might want to think about building a gas if there is no rpm limit and no turbos allowed. Have yet to seen a diesel 4020 come close to mine yet.

Where are you at? What weight classes do you pull? I have a 4010 gas I pull in Pa and Ohio.

my brother pulls a G and an A JD in the antique class, and a freind pulls in the modified truck class. I like my 4020. I live in central MN. I would like to know why you are leaning towards a gas when a deisal moter has more lugging power. what weight should I be shooting for, and what tires should I get? Also what carb are you using.

A 4010/4020 should easily be able to be stripped down to 6000 or 6500 pounds. Mine fits into the 5500# class, but that takes a considerable amount of work (24.5-32 tires too!). Out here we have no rpm limit so things in my setup may be a little different than yours. There are some decent size carbs available from zenith and also aircraft carbs are my favorite. Depends on the rules for your class. Nice chatting with you! You can find my email above.

Central Ohio has a real nice class (Div 5 Turbo) The rules seem to favor economics. Probably ought to look for a 4020 with synchro tranny. If you need any parts I have lots of them (almost enough to build a complete 4010) Good Luck

I recommend walking around the pit area at a pull and looking to see how the majority of them are set up. Maybe even talk to a few of the pullers.
