I just filled the gas tank on my newly acquired 48 B and noticed that I have a dripping leak of oily gas coming from the bottom of the clutch housing. Can anybody please enlighten me as to what is going on? Thanks in advance.

I don't think the oil pressure fuel valves were original equipment in 1948, I think they became standard on the 50, 60 series. Anyone know for sure? Some older tractors were retrofitted.

I had the same problem!I have an automatic gas shut off that works with oil pressure. There are a set of diaphrams in the top of the sediment bowl, they need to be replaced.I went to my JD dealer he ordered them I think they were about $3.They were easy to install.Alsothe crankcase filled with gas so oil and gas run out of the bottom of the clutch pulley,so good luck! Gas can also come from the gas shut off, some have a auto shut off that works off oil psi.If you have a oil line that goes to the sediment bowl check it.

Probably, the float and/or needle in the carburator doesn't work properly, and they are allowing the fuel to flow into the cylinders, and on into the case. Pappy is right. It could blow up if you start it!

If the leak is out of the bottom of the clutch pulley, you have a problem of fuel leaking into the crankcase and running over.Repair this before you try to start the engine!!! Don't want your engine to be in a different zip code from the tractor.
