On a car if you unhook the battery cable the car will continue to run if the generator or alternator is charging. I have a "G" and it has a distributor. If I unhook the battery it dies.
Should it continue to run when the battery is disconnected. Had the generator checked and it is putting out about 10 amps.

Wayne, yes it should continue running but will probably have to be on high idle to do so as those generators don't put out much at idle.

Many alternators will be damaged if the battery is disconnected while the engine is running. The condition is called an uncontrolled open. The alternator depends on feedback from the battery for the regulator. If the battery is disconnected, the alternator will charge at such a high rate as to damage the built-in diodes. Just made these comments to perhaps save someone some grief.
