How does a guy remove the brass bushing from the belt pulley hub. How does he re-install a new one? Do you need a press or can you tap it in with a hammer? When you hone it out, how much do you hone it? This is on my JD AO #280743. Thanks for your help.

Toaster, I have cut those bushings out with a hacksaw blade by putting tape on one end of the blade then cutting the bushing almost through in 2 places. I have tried pressing them out but usually end up expanding them instead pressing them out. If I have a large tap that will fit I will thread the tap in & drive the tap & bushing out with a brass rod. I don't have a reamer of the correct size for most of those bushings so will usually either set it up in the mill or take the bushing & pulley to my local machine shop & have them do it. The bushing is best pressed in with a center mandrel but I have driven them in with a driver from my bushing driver kit with good success, every once in a while I will get lucky & not have to re-size the bushing after pressing it in but not very often.
