Need info on hood removal of my 1948 "B". It appears the the steering rod must be removed. If my assumption is correct, whats the best way to do it? Any advise I would appreciate. This is my first tractor.

Thanks,

Jim

Don't be intimidated by the hood removal. First time I did it took maybe an hour. Didn't know what to expect. Now I can get one off in half that time. Just be sure you have everything disconnected(fuel line, wiring, shutter control rods) and bolts are all undone. Once you are totally disconnected then have a neighbor or friend help you lift it over the stacks. I would recommend removing sediment bowl also. You are correct the steering rod comes out and you will see where when you remove the nose cap and grills. Have fun and good luck to you

Jim,
I am afraid there is a lot more to it than that. I haven't done this yet myself, but I believe you are correct about the steering rod. If I am not mistaken the fuel tank(s) come off with the hood also. There may be other nasty surprises in store for us too. Now I understand why 99% of these tractors have chisel tracks on the hood. Good luck, let us know how you make out and be sure to send any helpful hints this way.

Surprises after surprises. Took me 4 hours to change a muffler on a 50 B. Good luck !!! :-(

Take the front cap off the center of the grills and there is a cover facing you and just take the two bolts out with the steering wheel off and the shaft will slide out the front.Good luck
