I have a 70 gas that does not have power steering. I have located a powersteering unit off a 70 Diesel for $100. Will it fit on the Gas tractor or is the fanshaft assembly all diferent.

Thanks

Lynn

Hello Lynn

It looks like youve got pretty smooth sailing on this one. There was no differentiation between gas, diesel or even LP for the 70 model. There wasnt even anything different between the row crop and standard models. There were some evolutionary changes at serial number 7039773 (pump) and 7031230 (valve, pedestal, steering spindle, etc). These changes shouldnt affect you as you are doing a complete swap. Just be sure to get the whole thing. Its probably a pretty good sized job but after its done youll thank yourself. Power steering makes a big difference in a 70. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

Some are naturally hard starters. Sometimes if you do alot of trial and error you can help them out. Shuting the gas off and letting them run out sometimes helps restarting. Some need little throttle some need alot some need only half choke.

Then every so often you find one like I had last year and sold. It was an old B like yours. It had been sitting for years no one really knew the story. I checked the spark, had some, dumped gas in it gave it choke and some throttle and it soon fired up. Ran it around some but it was missing a tire on one side so couldn't really run it much. This thing would beltch out blue smoke and throw dropplets of oil out the stack. The engine had to be shot, but every time you wanted to start it there was no problem getting it going in just 1 or 2 seldom more turns. I wonder if it is still going to start as good after it is fixed ? Some just start and run no matter how bad they are !
