I recnetly purchased a 4520 and need to move the rear wheel spacing .The trouble is that I cant get the wedges in the axels loose .Ihave tried it by the owners manual instructions ,several cans of PB Blaster , heating the wheel center with a torch until cherry red and frailing the daylights out of it with a 16 # sledge hammer against a sleeve made to fit the wedge all of which has been to no avail . are there any tricks to freeing them up? I am ready to use dynamite Any help appreciated

One method I have seen is using about 6 feet of well casing or similar pipe, filled with concrete and hung on a chain fall. Use the pipe like a battering ram,to strike the end of the axle. Keep tension on the jack screws at the same time as you jar the axle with the "swinging press". This will work well, saves the back and is tougher to miss. (but not impossible)

I posted this same question last fall, sometime in September for my 4020. Mine came loose with a ton of penetrating oil and a few hits on the end of the axle. I soaked them for about a week. I'm still having a problem turning the pinion bolt on one side though.

Be careful not to break the push bolts. The first thing I always do is remove the push bolts and spray multi purpose spray lubricant in holes. Use lot's of spray. Retighten the push bolts but don't break them off. They will take a little abuse though. Then get a B.F.H. {BIG @$^% HAMMER} and hit the end of the axle. Not once but around ten times or so. then reapply pressure on push bolts. Keep doing this until the wedge breaks loose or you die of exhaustion, whichever comes first.

Take the three bolts out of the opposite wedge. Then jack the cast center out. The wedges will stay on the axle while the cast center will loosen on both wedges. Make sure to prevent the wheel from sliding off the end of the axle when it breaks loose. When you get it apart take the wheel completely off and spend time cleaning the axle and the wedges. Makes the next time much easier. Good luck.

Put a hyd. jack between the wedges and the axle housing. Put pressure on the jack. Hit the outer end of the axle shaft with a sledge hammer.
The wedges will pop loose. Don't be affraid to hit the axle with force.

It takes patience.
It takes time for the penetrating juice to work. And beating on it will hurt more than help if it isn't ready or being pounded on in the wrong place. Time is your friend. Keep pressure (torque) on the jack screws, keep juiceing it, and tapping and it will come free. Note that heating cherry red will change the temper of the metal and is not recommended.

Well, I was told to run my 3020 loose, and they'd pop loose. That was some 20 years ago. You may have to torch them out.

I got mine loose on a 4010 and 3010 by loosening the bolts, tightening the jack screws and driving arround (slowly) and tapping the brake on the wheel I was trying to break loose. It was still quite a struggle. good luck.
