Re: G top ring groove problem WMW?? in reply to 1eyedwillie1, 05-15-2006 05:55:46
1 eye, I know you are visualizing the top (closed end) of the piston as being placed on the bottom and obviously that won't work. What Will meant was the piston was rotated 180 degrees in the bore so that any piston pin offset was toward the "wrong " side of the cylinder. The offset is intended to balance the power force against the top of the piston and equalize cylinder wear, when offset the other way some power advantage is realized at the expense of wear and piston slap noise. In this case there can be spark plug blocking too unless a notch is provided.

Re: 3010 with 35 loader?? in reply to Hayfarmer, 11-03-2006 19:36:33

3010 is closed center. Its not hard to pick off power and return. Hydraulic power is available at an elbow right at the brake pedals, return to the transmission oil cover. I like to have a flow restrictor valve to keep the loader under control. For my loader 5 gpm is plenty and I want to leave main flow for steering and brakes.

My connection manifold on my 4020 is shown at>Link
I>Link use the second port for a three point backhoe.

It's firing when the intake valve is open. I'd guess it to be out of time, valves not closing due to improper adjustment or plug wires reversed. Sit down and think this out before you burn up a good tractor.

Would seem it has to be a timing, plug wire or valve adjustment problem. Since the valves were the most disturbed by the surgery, I'd look there first. Perhaps you have several intake valves that are still open during the compression and power strokes. That would make it have poor compression, reluctant or impossible to start, won't take in enough fuel via carb & choke so you shoot ether to it & it fires back through carb, catches fire & doesn't run. I think I'd start at the top & check the valve adjustment.

Good Luck.

Maybe! If the price of gas goes up this summer like they are saying then you won't be able to afford to run it anyway. However, you might wait to burn it until winter then you can use it for heat.

if the engine was running before you had the head work done, and everything being the same there should be no reason for it not to start.if i remember right, unless you took out the oil pump, you cant put the distributor in wrong.if you had the plug wires off the distributor cap then you could have the wires on wrong.bring it up on # 1 compression and check the rotor position and direction of rotation,to check firing order.you could also have an air leak in the manifold gasket.

If the tractor was running before you worked on it and the distributor has not been moved I would say the timing is o.k. You could double check it if you wanted to but I think it would be a waste of your time.

the backfiring is caused by a valve being open when spark occurs.i believe you should recheck the firing order.as far as the carb is concerned,i cant help

By some chance did you have the distributor off. I,m thinking it has to be timed with the cam drive gear on top of the oil pump.
