Re: jd 200 series cultivator restoration question in reply to Mike M, 05-16-2006 05:25:56
I love the detail of contrasting colors when I restore old tractors and implements. I don't like, however, to get carried away with inventing new things to paint particularly yellow that weren't that way origionally. For example, on ebay you see often jd stuff for sale with yellow paint in odd places that make me cringe. So, if the shanks were red I would love to paint them for the contrast.

In my opinion my old buddy Dave there is THE MAN on 24 volt systems, although ol clooney and I dont do too bad on electrical questions in general. He's right, and just think of it as you can always charge a 12 volt battery with a 12 volt charger with no need to disconnect anything whatsoever, so long as its not a load thats discharging the battery faster than u can charge it up ..... If in series therefore (24 volts) you would have to charge one at a time (still dotn need to disconnect anything) but if in parallell (which yours arent), when you hook to one youre already hooked at same time to the other, and you can charge both those 12 volt batteries at once with a 12 volt charger. Dave made a typo error there in his second paragraph (about a 12 volt system), he meant parallel but typed series. I thought I was the only one who made them mistakes lol. Had to kid ol Dave there Good Luck Ol (Didnt say OLD) John T

To answer your question correctly one needs to know if your tractor is a 12 or 24 volt system? If it is a diesel with a 24 volt system (batteries hooked in series)your answer is NO, hook the 12 volt charger to the battery that you want to charge, red to positive and black to negative as marked on the battery and it will charge that battery only to do the other hook your 12 volt charger the same to it as the first battery. If your tractor is a gas that has two 12 volt batteries hooked in series (12 volt system) when you hook your 12 volt charger to one battery, red to positive and black to negative as marked on the battery and you will be charging both batteries the same time. If you only want to charge one then you will have to unhook the other. You will not hurt the other battery if you charge them both the same time in a parallel system. If this don't answer your question post back and I will give you more information if you need it . Good Luck, Dave W.
