I am looking at a JD 4030 at an auction this week.
It is a 75 model and pretty straight but old looking. There is one exhaust port on the manifold that remains cool when the engine runs. It only warms up when heat from the other side of the manifold hits it. I do not think the farmer will let me take it to get the injector out to switch with another or check it in anoter way.
What is anyones best guess as to what might be wrong.
very little blow by but engine sounds like it is missing.
Thanks.

Mark

The auction is tomorrow the 4th. I have discovered through a bizzare ordeal that the 4030 was totally overhauled 4 years ago. I called and asked the local JD dealer. The owner has had a series of severe strokes which has left him unable to communicate effectively even to his own family, since my communication with him has been by using his daughter as a go between.
She first told me that 1 piston was replaced and the clutch, but the JD dealer has no record of any clutch work.
ANYWAY....the overhaul was done just over 300 hrs ago.

Even one dud injector will ruin engine quick. Should have seen the mess the 2-53 in the 435 was in. The soot will plug ports & makes an abrasive which ruins machined surfaces. The raw fuel diluted the oil & ruined the cam/lifters.

Yes it does have a cab,
A friend of mine, who just happens to be a JD mech. is meeting me at the tractor tomorrow to see if the injector is pumping.
The man who owns the tractor said today that just last spring he put a new clutch, a new piston and had valves ground.
Can the valves need adjusted shortly after they were ground.

7000.00? Bring to central MN. and get a minimum 13500. Very sought after tractor around here. Last one I saw went for 19500.

Personally I would not buy this tractor unless it goes fairly cheap. It sounds like it has eithor been used alot, or has had some problems, which could only get worse. Also, most of the 30 series tractors JD made were not nearly as good as the 20, or 40 series. Be careful, and look into the cost of maintaining this tractor before you buy it.
