I have a 45 B. It is very hard ot start. Once it is running it sounds fine, no black smoke. Could it need carb adjust? It idles down nicely. Any ideas?

I would suspect ignition or timing problems. If you have a magneto, I would start with it and be sure it is timed correctly, and is putting out a good spark.Carburetor adjustments can come later.

Demo, it could be anything from old gasoline (old gasoline looses it starting ability because the easily evaporating parts of it have already evaporated) to a choke not completly closing (or the little trap door in it is missing) or the ignition system is weak. You can try adjusting the idle screw about 1/2 to 1 turn out to see if it starts easier. You could also have worn rings that won't build much compression until it is running & oil gets to the rings. Did this problem just suddenly appear or has it been getting worse with age?
