Does anybody have an accurate serial number list for the 840s?

I have used:
1958-8400000
1959-8400033 1960-8400619 through 8400848

However, I have learned of three tractors outside the list-8401028, 8401127, and 8400984. So, either these tractors don't really exsist....or the list is wrong.

Thanks if anybody has a more accurate list.
Brandon

According to the records, the serial number breaks for the 840 tractors are as follows:

1959 8400000-8400505
1960 8400506-8400844
1961 8400845-????? ?

The records for the 840 tractors are incomplete, so we do not know the serial number of the last 840 tractor, or if production went on into the 1962 model year. However, a Deere internal document states that as of June, 1962, the last 840 tractor was 8401200, which is plausible, since there are 840 tractors with serial numbers in the 1100 range, the highest known being 8401154.

I have heard of 840's after 848, but I am sure they built up to #916. 916 and 400 Scraper #416 are sitting in my back yard. I'm sure I don't need glasses that bad. I have also heard of the possible 1200 being the last number, and it seems logical. The problem is, exactly when were these made. It seems a factory worker could tell us when the last one was made, or taken out of inventory. its time these were taken seriously and some one did some investigating.

Tony, that's a question a lot of us would like to have answered---I have talked to Waterloo personnel who say that there were quite a few built prior to shutdown for conversion to the NG tractors, and the Production Log confirms this. However, I have also talked to Waterloo personnel who contend that some 840 tractors were built well into 1961. If the Production Log is to be believed, then by their figures the last 840 would have to have been 1040. I have personally seen 840's with higher serial numbers, the highest being 1154. 730's were built at Waterloo until February of 1961, and there are people who confirm that 840 parts were cast in that period, so I think we can assume that 840's were built well into 1961, and perhaps into 1962. Probably somewhere there is a document to confirm this, but since Archives access has been closed, we may never know for sure.

First-Thanks for the responses!

Stranger, can you tell me anything about #1154? Is it restored, or just rusting away? Could you email any pictures?

Also, what other 840s are still around? Do you have any other serial numbers?

Thanks again,
Brandon
