You did not mention the hard part. The bolts holding my manifold on are half rusted off. Its going to be a real knuckle buster.

Copper coat gasket compound will help seal the gasket between the head and manifold. Good luck.

the dog is right. be sure to plane the head and manifold to ensure proper sealing. after machining, take a straight edge and check the planes to be sure they are adequate. once i didnt check the manifold....took the manifold off after it was all together to get it done right the second time. i wouldn't put anything on the surfaces either. i dont know if the 630 has wet holes or not but if it does, use some teflon sealant on the bolts. if not wet, put antiseeze on the threads and shaft of the bolt as mike said.
best of luck

Curtis, I normally put a light coat of never-seize on the gaskets and manifold (in addition to the bolts). It helps them from "growing together". It seems the never-seize assists in sealing until the tractor runs for a little while. Hope this helps. Mike

Curtis--Before you put them on you should have the head and the manifolds taken to a machine shop and have them put on a surface grinder so you have a flat surface on both sides. If you don't you may never stop your leak. As to your question you do not need to put anything on the gaskets but be careful not to over tighten your manifold bolts. luckydog
