I have a friend that just bought a lot with some out buildings.
There is a 70 Standard Diesel on the place.
The guy who had the place said it has been there for years. He said the pony motor ran till it ran out of gas, but he thought the diesel motor was stuck.
From the pictures he took it looks complete except for the seat. Of course the tires are shot and flat.
He said he would give it to me to get it out of there.
Is it worth dragging home?

Better keep his location a secret or my 70D row crop will have a squatty little brother in the barn to keep him company!

Go get it!

George-
Run, don't walk! It's a diamond in the rough. If you could have seen my 70 Row Crop gas when my son and I brought it home in three separate and large peices and if you could see it now, you'll know what I mean when I say that according to your description, you are way ahead of where we were a couple of years ago.

Well, looks like I will pull the old gal out and see what she is.
I am used to red things...not green, although my dad does have an 820 Diesel and he will not part with it.
Soon as the ground will hold the trailer I will horse the thing home.
I hope a Dodge 3/4 ton and a goose neck will haul it if I take it easy.
Thanks folks....

A friend and I each have a 70D st... without water in the tires the tractor weighs about 7400lbs (18.4x26 on the rear) with water in the tires about 9200lbs (18.00x 26 grader tires.) No problem for the 3/4 ton Cummins.. hard part will be getting her on the trailer... then the fun will start.. putt-putt.. putt-putt...

George-
Check "YT Photos" for 54 JD70 which was just posted last night. If you could visualize this 70 as it was two years ago, with the head and motor parts here, the tin work there, the carburetor somewhere else, tires shot and barely holding air,etc.,...-that's why I say you should go for that 70 diesel. Now-obviously, it takes time and $$$ but with JD's, Farmalls, Fords, A-C's, Cases, Olivers, M-H, any of these, they've really got to be in tough shape to be too far gone. Also, I am sensing a rising interest in JD 70's lately so that's maybe why am bubbling over to you a little bit too much. There were times during the "revival process" of our 70 that I wondered why I had become so feeble-minded to have gotten into this; I even said things that were a little stronger than "shoot and "gosh-darn." But now, I consider it be one our our better accomplishments, the tough times are forgotten, the costs justified (by me at least) and my 1954 JD 70 is not for sale! So go for it and have fun. There's an unbelievable amount of knowledge on this board and I haven't found anyone yet who isn't willing to help.

If you have to ask that question, then you don't need the tractor. Tell me where it's at and I will make sure I find a way to get it home. LOL!! No really. I would not think twice about getting, espcially for free. Good luck! Bill {Antique Acres}
