Last month someone asked the question "How do you bench test a 6 volt generator?". I printed off your reply for future reference. You told how to wire it to make it run as a DC motor. My question is do you wire a 12 volt generator the same way? Just want to make sure before I fry something and my mistake ends up costing me more. Thanks. DaveH

Yes, the generator voltage (6 or 12) doesnt make any difference if you want to see if it will run as a motor. Usually if it will motor, it will generate, since a DC motor and generator are basically the same thing. Stick it in a vise (or could be done on tractor with belt removed even) and connect the field wire terminal to the generators case and apply battery voltage to the generators arm terminal (other battery cable to frame) and she should spin. Other common minor problems are inadequate ground of the generator or the voltage regulator when its mounted on the tractor. Ol John T
