I'm refering specifically to the "How to rebuild..." or "tune-up" series. How good was it? Are they pretty informative? I'm just asking because they have a new one that covers my tractor. What's your review? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

I purchased one video from this site.. Actually I think it was linkled to Amazon.com, However, The service was great.. The video content was a joke. I purchased the "How to paint a tractor" video.. The guys that produced it actually used the wrong color of JD paint.. When I saw that, I stopped the video, ejected it and threw it in the can..!!

I have some of their videos and they are fine. They are not something you could really use in place of the shop manuals for a major overhaul. They do give a lot of good tips but also leave out a lot.

Have both the tune up and rebuild for the MT. Worth every penny. Not rocket science, pretty straight forward and gained lots of little tips that I didn't already know. Made carb-rebuild much simpler. Wish they had one on rebuilding the touch-o-matic.

What would you say was the biggest weakness of the videos? Do you think if you had little experience with tractors that the videos would be pretty clear to you? Or do you think that to gain the greatest knowledge from the videos requires at least a moderate level of previous experience?

Thanks for your input by the way.

As with all how-to videos, the weakest part is that they make it look so easy that anyone could do it. Not so. Have seen videos on how to golf but I can't hit a ball right to save my life. They also are the best case senario. For example: my carb rebuild. Got basic idea of rebuild from video. Then knew what parts i wanted to get prior to breaking it down. With all parts in hand should have taken 2 hours max. Took me two weeks, old brass crumbled and needed to be drilled, reamed and picked out of every crevice. Load threads were stripped, needed to be drilled out, re-threaded for insert, insert needed to be shaped and notched, jb weld on hair line crack and and then cleaned and reassembled. Video helped but I was on my own to wing-it. Most of all, I think the most important resource is having a fix-it sixth sense about things whether its fixin or repairing tractors or cars or kitchen sink disposals. My dad had me working on things since I was five or six so attempting to fix it first before going to a dealer or repairman has always been the normal progression of things. Learned from him also to have all resources one can find at hand. Manuals, videos, schematics, e-mail posts and all the tools you can con your wife into believing are a nessecity. Then just get greasy and dirty and earn a blister or two. The experience then helps the next time around on any other project. Sorry about the ramble, my 52cents.

school of 'do it yourself'..Think 4 yourself & learn. It helps to be near broke at one time also as it generates RESPECT for doing it yourself (cheaper way). sounded about like what I've done. H
