The brass 3 way fuel valve on my 1945 JD-B is real hard to turn. Is there a way to make it easier to turn? Thanks gef

Take the three way apart. Get you some 600 grit lapping compound and lap the plug to the valve body. This will take any burrs or high spots out of the brass selecter plug. When you get it where it is smooth again reassemble the parts and replace the packing. The packing is avaible thru Deere.

Do not use a heavy coat of the 600 grit compound on the plug. The lapping compoud works best using a light coat. Work the plug back and forth a few times then reapply a light coat of compound. If you use a heavy coat, it will not lap the plug to the body of the valve.

The original packing was cork-type. I got a new one from oldjd4u.com, and it was a modern graphite type. 99 cents, and you can get them one at a time. I asked at my JD dealer, and all they had on record was the complete valve assembly for about $60.

The packing is called a Gasket in the parts book. Part number D 2122R. There are 5 in a package. No Packing Compound
