I have a 3010 Diesiel and was wondering if a engine out of a 4020 with turbo would work. I like the tractor just needs a little more horsepower. Any ideas. Thanks for the info in advance.

how about putting a engine from a 3020 in. I think this would be less work and the drive train should hold up ok and it should give you atleat 10 more horsepower????? someone correct me if im wrong please.

it would work if you switched the stuff like twopop said, but I also agree with him that the tranny and clutch probably would not last too long because they were not made fro tham much power.

i believe the 4020 engine will bolt right up.but you would have to use a 4020 frame 0r at least side rails and hood.then you would have to use to 3010 clutch discs which are to small for the added power and the trans and rear end are not built for the added power.

Would a engine out of a 3020 fit and how much added horse power would i have. Or would it be better just to overhaul this one when i have the time.

More than likely, if your 3010 has ever been overhauled, it already has 3020 pistons and sleeves, therefore a 3020 engine. Only real difference between a 3010 and 3020 engine was the bore, which was 1/4" larger on a 3020. Update the injection pump to 3020 specs, and you have a 3020 engine, more or less. M&W made a turbo kit for the 3010/3020, an easy way to make another 10 or 15 hp, though finding one today could be a little tough. Putting a 4020 engine in a 3010 chassis is possible, but more work, time, and expense than it is worth---if you need that much more power, you perhaps should think about a 4010 or 4020 tractor.

As far as I know the engine has not been overhauled. I bought the tractor about 13yrs ago. Have had the injection pump rebuilt and the injectors redone last year. Don't know about the specs on the pump when they rebulit it. If i did overhaul the engine would it be wise to use 3020 pistons and sleeves and spec the injection pump to match. The most i do with this tractor is pull a 12ft bush hog and at times pull a 14ft disk. I am looking to be putting all of my land in costal for hay and might be cutting and baling with this tractor. any advice on this

You can get another 8-10 horsepower just by turning the injection pump up (if it has the DB or JDB Roosamaster, and not the CB pump. I used to do it to farmers'tractors when they brought them to the county fair pulls every year. I've done it with the tractors hooked to a dyno, so the results are clear.
