Timing an injection pump

I just went through the injection pump for my 3010 and was wondering if it can be timed at TDC like the 3020? Somebody on one of these boards said I would gain power by not putting it in at 10 degrees BTDC like the book calls for but to time it at 3-4 degrees BTDC.
Thanks,
John

Why in the world would you want to change the stock timeing in the first place?? Factory knows best. If your 3010 is in proper tune you should have no lack of power. Start messen with things you shouldnt and you will end up breaking expensive equipment. If you want more power trade your 3010 in for a 3020.

Big Green, It seems to me we don't agree too much. LOL I am playing with the tractor that I have available. It was my Grandpa's tractor, bought new in '63 and it will never leave my family unless I am dead and buried. To me it is a challenge to extract all available horsepower out of everything. I have a 1961 Ford Starliner that is by no means stock. Factory doesn't always know best, but if they do ever get it just perfect, I'll let you know.

i dont think you can time it at tdc. the pump is designed to be timed at a certain place.the inside of the pump was changed on the 20 series so it could be timed at tdc,but the pump actually fires somewhere around 10 degrees.if it fired at tdc it would be to late for proper combustion.i think if yoy time it at 3-4 degrees you will lose power
