I just bought a late styled JD A all fuel. Of course it has the one lever shift and square axle housings. The rear tires are very good. It is in very good working order and has been used as sort of an acreage tractor the past 15 years. The owners actually pulled a plow some with it and ran a baler. The metal is probably 90%. Starts good and will idle super slow. The only alteration I can see is the muffler hole. I know it is an all-fuel because it has two fuel tanks. What is it worth?

I would say around 1500 to 2000 depending on tires, clutch, brakes etc.

I bought a fully restored 1950 A (2 gas tanks) last summer for 2600. I looked for a long time, and decided I was going to wait for a retiring neighbors....only it sold for 1800 and needed a lot of sheet metal work and the tires were fair. For $2600, this one has new tires, new paint, new seat and decals and sheet metal is back to original. I know part of the "fun" is doing your own work, but in this case, the cost of fixing would have been a lot more. Most A's around the midwest seem to go between 1000 and 1800 unrestored. Making sure it "runs good" is important as rebuilding can get costly.

Andy, are you sure it is an all-fuel? If it is a '50 model, it could have two tanks and still not be an all-fuel model. Customers were complaining that the A's didn't have enough fuel capacity at 14 gallons. Deere's interim answer to this was to provide the all-fuel hood and gas tank to increase the fuel capacity by an extra gallon. Later, the fuel tank was enlarged to 18 gallons, which can be distinguished by the choke rod running under the hood, rather than through it. Look to see if your A has a heat shield under the fuel tank. If it does, it acually is a gas tractor with two tanks. If it does not, it is an all-fuel. I have one of these gas tractors, and thought it was an all-fuel converted to gas. It has been a gas all along. Hope this helps. Mike
