How much oil should go in the power-trol of a l953 JD 60 with a loader? What kind of oil do I use? and how do I check it? Maybe that is the reason my loader don't work.

John, because of the extra oil the loader needs there is no way to tell without actually filling it with the loader on. On most of the 2-cylinders I have put loaders with long cylinders on, I have needed an external resevoir to handle the extra oil that is needed to operate the loader. Make sure you have enough oil in the system to not drain the power-trol when the cylinders are extended.

My operators manual says that it has a six quart capacity. The power-trol unit itself doesn't hold this much oil - but the whole hydraulic system - pump, lines, etc. Use the same oil as you would in the engine. You check the oil level with the test cock that is located about 1/3 of the way up on the right hand side of the unit. Good luck.

The operators manual for my 50 says use the oil recommended for the engine. The 50 takes 6 quarts. It probably would be a good idea to change yours and refill till it comes out the petcock.
