I have a wierd problem with my 46 A. I use it for snowplowing so here in Minnesota so I need it bad! It seems to run out of gas, or acts like it, some times it runs for a 1.2 hour, then it won't hardly run. I have check fuel lines, cleaned/rebuilt carb, gas tank is nice and clean, changed plugs, points. One thing for sure is that where the carb attaches to the manifold, it ices up, always, it never seems not to have frost on it. How do I tell if the intake is cracked? any ideas?? thanks

Had a A that done about the same thing. It turned out to be the condenser. You didn't mention changing it. Sweat, frost, or ice on the intake section of the manifold, depending on the climate is normal

Brian,
I think that is a pretty common thing for "A's".
Ours in Pa. would do that but we would shut it off for a few minutes and let the engine heat go through it and it would operate fine.
I have heard others talk about a alum or steel adjustable sheild that goes over the top of the whole manifold and keeps the warmth in.You could prob make one but I would suggest leaving the area around the exhaust pipe [2] bolts and the pipe joint itself uncovered for fire hazard.

Also check your gas cap to see if it is venting, there should be some sort of way to get air into the tank so it does not create a vacumn.

dont use gas (thats nuts)you can use wd40 and do the same thing and not nearly as apt to have a fire.you can take the manafold off and have it magna fluxed if all else fells.sounds like you are running a cold manafold you might want to invest in a hot one.you might try running a hot fuel mix to i had to do this with one of my Bs last winter.2btls of heet 1btl 104octain boost

dont know what your engine trouble is but you can check if your intake is cracked or leaking by filling a squirt bottle with gas then squirting it at ihe intake area the engine should speed up if intake is leaking but be very careful you cuuld end up with singed eyebrows or worse if things go wrong.
