Like it or not John Deere plays the GREED game better than it's competitors. It's just like the TV show "Survivor", you may have liked Richard Hatch or loathed him, but he played the game to win, and did what it took to do it. I was at a machine shop and the owner had an interesting contraption on a set of rails. I couldn't figure what it was. Only thing I'll give away is that it has something to do with G.P.S. and automation of farm tractors. He was doing the physical work on the designers ideas. Said they had taken it to John Deere to see if they were interested. Deere told them no, but to go ahead and perfect and build it, and they would just steal the idea. Deere told them they didn't have enough money to fight Deere in a patent lawsuit. I loathe Deere the company, but love the old 2-cylinders, and have to buy parts somewhere.

If you look back over the years, John Deere has not paid alot of attention to the collector, and was interested in selling new equipment as well as parts for used equipment that is still being used for farm work. When they realized that there alot of people that are restoring/collecting old equipment, they decided to jump in and get involved. Why? Well it surely was not to be a great 'help' or 'source of information'. It was to make $! John Deere is a Fortume 500 company, and being at that level, they are there to do one thing....Make Money! So although they appear to be doing the collector a 'favor' by building a collector center and offering memberships and levels of services, they would get rid of it in a heartbeat if they lose money at it, guaranteed! That's big business.....to be competitive look towards the future and don't worry about the past

I would have to agree with you TB an all you can eat prime rib would definitely be worth it!!!!! I as much as the next guy would love to know the history of my tractor, however is it that important? I understand the significance and all but from now on you will see less and less at shows and eventually become "extinct." All we can do is site back and enjoy the sounds and the green paint.

The trouble is that people pay this. I for one probably can't justify it but if somebody wants to spend that kind of money for a service than its their right...just as they might cringe at the thought of me spending $20.00 on an all you can eat prime rib dinner. :-) p.s. that i can justify !!!

For the prices that the Center is charging, I think I can come up with a better lie about my tractor.

Washington was going to use it at the crossing of the Delaware.

It was used on the moon

It is the most valuable Model X because it is the only one with that serial number. I'll sell it for $141,000. Any takers?

The man John Deere would crap his pants for this unreasonable price gouging.
