Greetings, I am a life-long Ford lover but have been working on my first JD, a model B. I am really getting the green fever. Thinking of replacing my work tractor with a JD but overwhelmed with all the model #s. I plow snow, grade my long driveway, and mow 4 acres with a 6' finish mower. I want a WFE, gas tractor, 35-45 HP, 3 pt, live pto and power steering. Can anyone help me figure which JD tractors might work well for me. Thanks for the help!

I would recommend a 60 or a 520/530 or a 620/630.
Hand clutches aren't bad when you get used to them.

Stick with John Deere. Run with the best...forget the rest. I'll suggest a 1020 John Deere. Great tractor. Handy as pockets on a shirt.

stick with the Ford get a 3000 or a 4000 and get rid of that handcluching flywheel falling of peice of crap before you hit the left brake instead of grabing that lever and run over your dog like my uncle did who cross'd over from farmalls and now has more green crap than I can stand & thinks its the greatest so I dont talk to him any more Dont buy a JD unless you dont like dogs or your nephews

This is a John Deere discussion forum. If you like Farmalls so much why dont you go to the Farmall forum? Dont they have anything interesting to discuss?

And what fine comments do you have when someone posts on the red board and discribes YOUR favorites as useless, inferior (true), JUNK in terms that are insulting? BTW, what do you think of painting farmalls blue to match the new corporate color scheme?

It's not IH any more, it's Navistar and that's for sale, It's not Farmall any more, it was CIH, but they changed that to CNH. Everybody else is hiding out. You must not have been paying attention!

Price for new paint $100

Price for watching a farmall come up short again...Priceless

For everything else...you get the picture

Come on man,can you give it a rest? This crap has been going on too long.If you have a problem with John Deere tractors, just get the chain and hook em up and let the biggest baddest win,and if the Farmall kicks butt you can pat yourself on your back all you want.

You want something with a live PTO, power steering, and a foot clutch. Avoid the hand clutch. It takes a lot of getting used to and even then can be unpredictable and unsafe.

A 3020 would be a nice tractor for you.

I agree with the suggestion of the 520/530 tractors if a two cylinder is wanted. Otherwise look at the 1020-1520-2020 tractors. They are all wide fron utility tractors with 3point, etc. You should be sure to look or ask about the live pto as I am not sure if every one of these tractors had it. Most did.

If you are looking for an old 2 popper to do this work, try a 520 or 530. Basicly the same but the 530 is a newer model. Can find them with wide front, live pto & hydros and three point hitch. Be careful running the old green machines. The hand clutch can be tricky until you get the hang of it.

I would think a nice little 2510 or 2520 would be perfect. Problem is finding one.

I use a 1994 5200 which is a 40 hp tractor in 60 hp tractor clothing. It has a 520 loader which makes it a very nice choice for utility work.
I also have a 1946 "A" and a 1937 "B" for playing.
