I am restoring a 48 m I have a set of pistons and rings but they don't match..the rings are not the right thickness..are cast iron piston rings the same as aluminum piston ones?
can someone give me ring part #s for my aluminum pistons....

I have a 51M...It came with cast iron pistons...I believe I saw somewhere that a 40 has aluminum pistons and a 40 piston and rod assy interchanges with an M.

The M has smaller connecting rod journals. With M crankshaft, the M connecting rods must be used. M used cast iron pistons, 40 used aluminum pistons. As far as I know, all the new replacements available now are aluminum. I think it would be a mistake to use one cast iron and one aluminum piston in the same engine. Use all pistons of identical construction in your engine.
