I want to get a Gator for moving around the farm and logging roads - mostly for transportation rather than hauling. The six-wheel is recommended for heavier mud and snow, but doesn't handle as well as the four-wheel. Can anyone tell me if the four-wheel will go most places the six will?

I have a 6X4 Diesel Gator. I would opt for the Diesel but is a little spendy. I can pull a maint. trailer loaded 100 gallon diesel tank, tool box full of stuff, compressor, and a Miller Bobcat welder with the diesel. I tried out the gas engine first and was disappointed with the power. The little 3 cyl. diesel is a good engine. Have a 750 JD with MFWD and a similar engine for 14 years with absolutely no problems.

The Gator is not for any mud deeper than 4 to 6 inches or you will high center it. I plan to put a weight bracket on the front to help it steer a little better. With any heavy loads, it wants to go straight.

Look at a Kawasaki Mule - a lot better value than a Gator especially for serious off road service. The Gator has no rear suspension very rough ride.

We have four 4x2 Gators & two 6x4 Gators for interior fire trucks, ambulance & gopher vehicles. If you will be driving through more than 6" of water purchase an Argo. The 4x2's turn sharper/easier ,ride rougher, accelerate slower, have a higher top speed( our governers & linkage set to max),noisier, get stuck in mud & snow easier, are much cheaper, carry less weight, will tow less & smaller cargo box volume, have a smaller stock alternator & less instrumentation. Can't go wrong with either. Gas engine for short duty stop/start operation. Personally prefer the 6x4's.

my father has arthritic joints and has had hip replacements. he needs a vehicle like a gator that he can use to irrigate hay with, spray weeds from, and move around the farm with. it needs to be easy to get in and out of like the gator...any suggestions?
