I was reading the literature that came with my 730 precision tractor. I noticed that there was an option for a canvas style cab. I have never seen one on a tractor. I was wondering if anyone has general information on this "sound guard" cab. Price for option, complexity for installation, viewable area, popularity. Does anyone remanufacture or repair the orginials.

Thanks

I bought a New Canvas WeatherBrake for my 3020
the box said it was for 4020's also. It has foot and a half extensions sewed on in front. Are these for using it with a 4020 or are they for covering the side screens of both tractors?

Extensions are for 4020. Roll them up or fold back for 3020. Stay Warm!!

Hey Burns, just curious, what kind of 730 do you have. I've got a 730 gas, 1960 model and have been trying to find out how many 730 gas were made that year as well as 730 gas total. Shorty dear gave me some figures a few months back but I have since lost them.

There were 990 of the 730 Gasoline Row-Crop tractors made in the 1960 model year. Production for the 1960 model year began in August, 1959 and continued until January, 1960, when manufacturing of all 730 models ended with the exception of the 730 Diesel.

Haybaler,

According to J.R. Hobbs' book they made 3560 gas row crops, 292 standards, and 6 gas Hi-Crops total. Would imagine it would be fairly evenly split between the 2 production years. This is out of a total of 24,495 total 730's. Hope this helps.

Jim

A toy tractor. I was reading the informaton brochure they provide with the precision toy tractors. I did not know that Deere offered this type of cab and I was looking for more information on this option.

While this doesn't answer your question on how many gas 730s were made, here are the starting serial numbers for each year of production.
1958 7300000
1959 7303761
1960 7322075
1961 7328801

Burns-The 530-630-730 brochure shows this so-called cab on page 23. We called them heat housers. Deere calls them Weather-Brake. The one that is open top is very common. I have never seen the one that has a canvas roof. I have the picture scanned into my 'puter but haven't figured out how to get it delivered here. Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't done this but I think you can get your photo placed on photopoint.com. From there you can add the URL link (website) to your photo on their site at the bottom of the post window.

Was the open top option always open? With the cover on, was it difficult to get on the tractor. We have a 977k Cat dozer that has the canvas side panels for winter work. With the fan blades turned to push warm air up into the cab, I know what a heat houser must feel like.

burns--I've run many ol John Deere's with heat houser-weather breaks on them. When it's cold they are realy great. Bad thing was when the wind was blowing, going one way you would toast and the other way you would freeze. Had a 1850 with a cab like heat houser with a top on it. Was great when it was cold, top keep all the elements off of you and in the summer you could take the side curtians and the plastic windows out and be in the shade, was'nt that bad. luckydog
