60 Clutch Questions

I am planning on adjusting the clutch on my 60 this weekend. In my manual it shows a picture of adjusting by taking the end of the pulley off and tighening the nuts in a pattern it describes. My question is how do you get the end of the pulley off to access the clutch? Any help is appreciated as I am lost here.

Like Billy said, just pry it off GENTLY with a large screwdriver. Stick the blade between the cover and the belt pulley and just twist, it should pop right off.

When you adjust the clutch, be sure to only turn the castellated nuts ONE castelation at a time (one notch), then try the clutch. The adjustment is pretty sensitive, if you go 2 notches you might not even be able to push it in at all. You should get a firm, solid pop when the clutch goes in. I know it sounds weird, but trust me - if it's working at all you shouldn't need more than one notch to tighten it up.

Be sure to get the cover secured. I was running Dad's old 60 mowing a field one day and the old gal slung the cover off. It took off like a scalded dog through the weeds. Almost didn't find it.

Jacob, look at the belt pulley near the outer end and you will see 3 counterset rivets evenly spaced around this end. These each hold a spring clip that hold the cover on. Take a fairly large flat blade screwdriver and gently tap it between the pulley and cover at that spot. Don't try to drive in very far, just far enough to get a grip then carefully turn the screwdriver on each one and the cover should come right off. Although I did have a tractor that some self proclaimed handyman had attempted to weld the cover on rather than replace the spring clips. Hope this helps. Billy
