I lost a pin for one of the shifter forks in the transmission. I CAN'T FIND IT! I don't need it as a part as I got one with the new shifter fork, but I need it as it might cause problems when I finnally move this thing. Any ideas on how to find it and get it out (without taking apart the whole transmission?) I used a magnet around all that I could but no luck, I then flushed the front part of the transmission by pouring a gallon of water in there and leting it drain out. No luck there either. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Karl

Karl, is this a roll pin ? If you can find a source for the high-power ceramic magnets locally, I'd put one of those as far down in the case and as far from spinning parts as possible, then it will pick up and hold the pin if it drifts by. You could put in 3 or 4 in different areas just for insurance. Up here in Canada, they are carried by www.leevalley.com, and I know they do mail-order. This is an old trick I learned as an apprentice, and it gives some peace of mind, even a good idea for trans/diff without lost parts, just to keep anything that comes loose from being picked up. Hope this helps, Ron

you might want to check and install locking shifter for 1/3 gears....also the pin may have fallen in the rear sump...

Karl--You might block the rear wheels up so you can spin the tires, might be in a gear, be gentle and rock the tires back and forth, maybe it might fall to the bottom. I would suggest flushing with gas, it will have more of a washing effect where water can puddle and might cause rust. Just trying to help!! luckydog

Im looking at my shifter forks right now dreading the same thing might happen. there's just not a whole lot of access to the bottom is there. Ive got a PTO shaft fix underway so I have to take the gear shafts out anyway. to bad you cant pick the whole thing up and shake it. can you flush it out better with tranny oil? perhaps warmed.

To keep you from making the same mistake... On the top of the pins where it comes out the top of the shifter fork is a hole where you can place a piece of wire or cotter pin in so it won't fall through... I learned this afterward....

Hope this helps!

Karl
