rhett-- It's not as difficult as it might sound. John T is correct but make sure the flywheel is timed right. Should be markings on the crankshaft and flywheel so when you are at TDC on left piston, your impulse mark on the flywheel should be with the line or mark on the back side of the flywheel on the trans housing. An IT manual is very-very helpful and explans this to detail. They are not that expensive ($15-$20). I think everybody should have one for the tractors they are working on!! Have fun luckydog

Rhett, its (initial rough in static timing) basically the same as the B Flywheel Timing post below. When left number one cylinder is at TDC on its compression stroke, thats when the Left Hand Impulse mark on the flywheel is at 3 o clock even with the mark on the tractors side. Its at that point that the mag should be set to snap over and fire the left cylinder. Turn it CCW to advance and CW to retard, such that it snaps at same time the flywheel is even with that mark and I do it by removing the plugs to relieve compression and turnign the flywheel and listening to the mag snap when the marks line up and adjusting it accordingly. Its (mag cap and rotor brush) supposed to be set with top mag terminal firing first the number one left cylinder and 180 later the bottom terminal firign the right cylinder. If its not, that can be changed by removing and turning 180 and reinstalling the mag in its slot. If she wants to kick back when hand cranking, its too fast. Theres also a lag angle settign on back of the mag, but hopefully that doesnt need adjusting. Ol John T
