Thanks for everyones suggestions on fixing my 4020. The elbow on the injection pump from the return line was clogged. I took it off, cleaned it, put it back on it she is running like a top.

I do have a question though, why wouldn't it run if the return line is clogged. I would understand if the supply line was clogged but how does the return line fit it. Also, what is the purpose of the ball (looked like a check valvue) in the elbow. Just curious, diesel repair is new to me and just trying to learn. Thanks again.

the injection pump have an internal vane pump which is used for metering and advance purposes.
when the pump's return line is clogged, the pressure created by the vane pump is rising within the pump making the advance mechanism move all the way to above max advance thus shuting the engine down.
i d'ont think model 65 had that 'flex ring' within the pump, the best way to check will be by asking a roosa master shop ater providing all the data that apears on the pump's number plate

was it pluged with little black pieces? if so the flex ring in you injector pump is broken and falling apart. I replace a few every month here in central Indiana.

Yes it was little black pieces. Where exactly in the injector pump is the flex ring and how do I replace it?

Unless you have the tools, and the manual, it is best to let a diesel shop do it. This is a common problem on Roosa-Master pumps.
