I found a big wheel JD rake near the house the other day. I know those things are pretty good sized and would be a bear to move. Can anyone tell me how rare it is? Would it be worth dragging home? Thanks

Are you asking about the 567 wheel rake that was in the line for about 20 years with 5,6 or 7 big yellow wheels that the teeth mounted on? I have two and would not trade them for anything. they sell at auction around here for $750-1000. If your are breaking teeth READ THE BOOK! 10 ibs of lift on the springs. Stock JD teeth are to costly. Puy on single rubber teeth that fits all rakes in every hole. Do not mix teeth on same wheel but not all wheels have to be done the same time. CUT OFF THE RUBBER TEETH JUST ABOVE THE BEND. Needs to clear the frame and will not plug by doing that. I have not broken a tooth in years and I rake at 5 to 7 MPH. If your talking about the old horse drawn rake that JD took off the seat and put a tractor hitch on--JUNK-- and haul it on a trailer if hauling over a mile. Take your lunch.

I have one, have had it for several years, it's in good shape, I've often wondered what it's worth. Somebody tell us.

If you are talking about the old JD bar rakes with two big wheels in the front and two caster wheels in the back $25 to $50. but if you are talking about a "wheel rake" (the ones with between five and seven large wheels with rake teeth on them, one staggered behind the other,) very little ($250?) because they break a lot of teeth and are not advised especially if you are chopping the hay.
