I bought a 63, 4010 diesel a year ago and use the pto to run a baler and sickle mower. Noticed that the pto shaft turns slowly when disengaged, will not creep when on baler but may on sickle mower. Is there some adjustment needed to the PTO linkage or is there some kind of clutch which needs replacing? Does this mean the pto is weak? I have slugged it with the baler and stopped pto. I would like to buy a round baler but am concerned about tearing up the pto.

As long as your pto lever snaps in with some effort, the linkage adjustment is fine. It does have a cone type brake, accessable only by splitting the tractor between the clutch housing& thetransmission case. You said you slugged the baler & stopped the pto. If the pto clutch disk and/or pressure plate are warped enough(possibly caused by slugging the baler & stopping the pto), there will be enough drag on the clutch to overcome the pto brake. Hope this helps.

If it's like a 3010 I worked on many years ago the PTO clutch is mounted to the engine flywheel along with the transmission clutch. I think there is normally some drag caused by the clutch and spinning shafts that will normally cause the pto to spin to some extent. There is a PTO brake used on these tractors too. I think it is activated by pulling back on the PTO lever.
