I have a 2-14" steel wheeled John Deere plow that someone attempted to restore several years ago, they painted 'No. 2B' on the side of one of the beams. Is there such a thing as a Model 2B John Deere plow? I an not familiar with John Deere plows and want to make sure of the model. It is a nice heavy plow, does not have a tail wheel, and the trip mechanism is fully enclosed and operates in oil. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Aaron, The things that get painted on old machinery often add to the confusion and are sometimes best ignored, as is the case here. I think from the description you gave, this is likely a 4B plow with the tail wheel missing. If the beam numbers stamped into the top of the beams are 583 and 623 then it is some form of #4 plow. If it has one lever and a crank it is a 4A, more common is two levers making it a 4B (or 4C or 4D depending on accessories). Beams 612 and 613 would mean it is a #52 plow. In either case it was made after about 1940 because the clutch lift is enclosed. If beam numbers are different from either of these choices post back or email me and we'll dig deeper. Hope this is of some use to you. Bob
