(I asked the same question on Tool Talk) I would like to use my timing light to time my 320. I know how to make the light operate from #1 cylinder. Unfortunatly the advance setting changes depending on engine speed. How should I do this? Thanks in advance! Tugboat

Tugboat - You can do a static timing set. Line up your timing mark on the flywheel with the rotor pointing at #1.Check the point gap first and reset if necessary, then loosen the distributor bolt and turn on the ignition. Turn the dist so the points are just at the instant of opening-check this with a test light at the lead to the points-it will go ON as the points open- and tighten the dist down there (shut off ign after re-check). The coil fires at the instant the points open, so that's it- you're done !Hope this helps, Ron

I've timed my 430 static and with a timing light. A little slop in the distributor bushings can make a difference. With the timing light, be sure to run the motor at full speed (2150 RPM on 430's). This will advance the timing fully.
If you do it by the static method, be sure to turn the rotor to fully advance the distributor when checking for the points to open. Otherwise, you'll have a retarded setting.
