Just purchesed a 70 D. Have the I&T manual and the parts manual, but no owners manual. Ordered the owners manual from Deere, but am told it will take 2-3 weeks to get it in. Meanwhile, I have drained the oil from the engine, transmission, reduction gear cover, and final drive. Question, how to get oil into the transmission and final drive, and when are they full? I poured Diesel into the reduction gear cover thinking that was the way, but it did not reach the trany or FD, instead, it ran around the Crankshaft into the clutch pully. Any help would be appriciated. Thanks, Moye

On the 70D there is a large plug on the right hand side of the "basic housing" (the large piece that holds the rockshaft assembly). This is where the trans oil goes in and you fill it to the lip of the opening. Takes several gallons (I think it's 7) of gear oil.
(There is another plug a little further to the rear but that's for the PTO clutch oil which is 10W, NOT gear oil).

ps I've never had it take more than about 10 days to get a manual printed up from Deere, although they always say 2-3 weeks.

Thanks a lot. I had found this filler hole and thought that what you said might be the case, but had not tried it. Helps to know. Will this also oil the Reduction Gear?

No, the first reduction gear cover is filled separately with 1.5 qts of gear oil. There is a small filler plug on top the cover (look in the middle of the cover, near where the clutch rod connects to the fork). The drain plug is also small and is on the bottom at that "bump" to the rear of the cover (there's a gear in there whose only function is to sling oil around the inside of the cover). Drain it first...

That should get you started until the manuals arrive. As has often been posted here, they really are worth the investment and should be the first thing anyone buys after getting the tractor.

Thanks again Charles. I filled the Trany and engine today and cranked and ran it. Did not fill the Reduction gear. Will do that before I run it again. Again, Many Thanks. Moye
